1. Description :


Matrix is desirable as a bit material, because its hardness is resistant to abrasion and erosion. It is capable of withstanding relatively high compressive loads, but, compared with steel, has low resistance to impact loading. Matrix is relatively heterogeneous, because it is a composite material.

4. Drill Bit PDC Cutters 


Polycrystalline Diamond Composite (PDC) cutters are the main point of contact for a drill bit. PDC bits remove the rock mainly by shearing.

The PDC cutters are exposed to a lot of heating and cooling down the well, a very challenging environment.

PDC cutters that have lower thermal degradation and more thermal stability generally achieve higher ROP and increased wear resistance. So, optimizing the cutter is important.

The hardness of a matrix-body PDC has the benefit of not being susceptible to abrasion and erosion. It is effective in tolerating high compressive loads, but, compared with steel, has low resistance to impact loading.

Matrix-body PDC bits are relatively diverse, because matrix is a compounded material.

In environments in which body erosion is likely to cause a bit to fail, matrix-body PDC are the preference over steel-body bits. For diamond-impregnated bits, only matrix-body construction can be used.
